Split Second by Nicholas Lawrence is a visual effect in which you take a dollar bill, give it a twirl and it turns into a full deck of cards.
You recieve in the DVD some supplies to construct the gimmick. You will need to supply your own deck, scissors, tape, etc. The actual gimmick once constructed is really clever and works well, it open onto your card box and you can open your card set with this effect. The card box isn't examinable, but since you are gong straight into your card set, you can just pocket the box and ask them to select a card.
The actual change is really easy to execute, and it really is as visual as it looks on the trailer.
As I lived in Australia, I had an American dollar bill lying around and it worked really well. As for Australian notes which are plastic and hard to fold, so for those who live in Australia and have this, my tip is to add a ma*net on each end so when the change is executed, it will stay closed. I hope that helps, I just can't expose any more on a public forum. Either PM me or contact me through my contact form on my site with proof of purchase and I will walk you through the full adjustments to the gaff.
The DVD is really well produced and Herman from SansMinds covers the construction of the gimmick in detail, and teaches a few different handlings using this gimmick. The teaching is done really well, and it uses over the shoulder shots to walk you through the effect.
There are a few angle issues, no one can be to your left or behind you. They should be in front of you or to your right - however you can simply turn your body a bit. If you work with large surrounded crowd, this will not work for you.
You can use this gimmick with other objects, such as a pack of gum. He talks quickly about using this concept to other items, however he doesn't construct one for you. It should be easy enough, however you will need to figure the construction out for yourself, but it's pretty much the same as the card box gimmick.
Split Second is a really nice effect, you can store the gimmick in your wallet and carry it with you all day. It is visual, easy to do and really fun to perform. I highly recommend this effect, if you liked the trailer, you won't be disappointed with your purchase. 10/10
