Matthew Wright is one of my favourite creators in the business, so of course I tuned in for his lecture. This lecture is mostly dealer den, requiring the purchase of the marketed effect to perform it. However, in this instance I didn't mind. Matthew's thoughts on character building were great and I got something out of that. They showed video of Mr Wright performing for people and these effects were explained, but also analysed. One time, the spectators grabbed something ahead of time, however Matthew worked his way around it perfectly. You can learn lots from this man. As always - here are a few effects from the lecture I really enjoyed:
Horizon - this was a dealer dem which will require the purchase of the gimmick, however just the thinking behind the system and gimmick was amazing. This is a new thread hook-up which allows you to float objects from one hand to another. He explained a few of the routines taught on the DVD, as well as an unreleased handling.
Final Destination - a clean and visual handling of 3fly with a levitation ending. This uses the same concept as Horizon, except in a 3fly. The routine is beautifully structured and each phase is more impressive and visual than the last. This will require a purchase of the gimmicks, but I can tell you it is a very worthwhile investment.
Mint - a thought of card appears inside a mint box. This was brilliant and totally fooled me. This requires you to carry "something" with you from table to table but it isn't too big. I have already made my own gimmick and will be using this regularly.
50 Sponges Balls from Bubble Gum Bubble (from Matthew's FISM Act) - this was a really nice gag to place somewhere into a kids or parlour act. You blow up a bubble with bubble gum, pop it and 50-75 sponge balls explode everywhere. It is awesome!!
Overall, this was a brilliant lecture. I have mentioned this is partly dealer dem, however there is a lot of great material taught and Matthew's thoughts on character building, naked rehearsal, etc. were great! Some great mental magic was taught as well. Well worth your time. 8.5/10
