Justin Miller gave a 3.5 hour lecture At The Table and man, was it good! I believe this is the best At The Table lecture so far! I took so much away from this lecture and I know you will too. Justin Miller is a very creative mind and taught so much material with cards, coins, sharpies and rings. They showed raw, uncut footage of Justin performing each effect for real audiences, and they analysed it and found ways to improve for the next time. Gregory Wilson hosted the lecture and did an awesome job. It was really an awesome jam session, with Wilson giving ideas on how to change the effects to suit his style (or other people's). It was just such a fun and informative session. Here are a few of my favourite effects taught:
Conviction: I AM USING THIS! This is my favourite effect on the lecture, hands down. Similar in plot to Joel Paschal's effect Believe, but completely different in visuals and method. The method is so clever and a real worker. The change is so visual and it leaves the spectator with a souvenir to take home. Worth the price of admission right there.
Ring Slide - an effect put out a while back in which a spectator's ring moves from one side of a Sharpie to the other, while THEY are holding everything. The method is very clever and super practical. Everything can be handed out in the end. All magicians have this simple gimmick so if you just carry it with you when you go out, you are set to perform an incredible piece of magic on the spot. Pure genius.
Blood Link - an effect taught on Miller's Bold Project (put out by Ellusionist). You take a bloodline impression from a ring and move it from one hand to another. Impromptu, strong and really cool!
Mental-feign - an effect in which a thought of coin demolition visually appears in a cigarette case's cellophane wrapping. This is really bold and can be carried with you at all times. The visual is crazy! I love this and if you don't smoke, you can just use your deck of cards :)
Silent Thought - a card divination/sandwich routine. This is really nice and has an awesome visual revelation at the end. I performed this the other night at a gig and it is so much stronger than you would think!
So much more amazing material was taught, and Justin's theory was incredibly valuable. I really believe that this is one of the best lectures that At The Table have hosted so far. 3.5 hours of incredible material, theory and Gregory Wilson's shenanigans.
