Greg Wilson's At The Table lecture was gold - as expected from the legend himself. Greg joined Mike Hankins at "the table" to teach some amazing routines and give some great experience and theory. Greg is hilarious and always makes things funny and enjoyable. Greg gave some incredible insight into the way he performs for laypeople. Near the end of the lecture, they showed a few clips of Greg performing to people and he was very critical about the performances, and you learned what to do by watching what not to do. Here are my thoughts on some of the routines taught by Greg:
Pitch and Ditch - Greg's legendary coin routine, in which a coin vanishes and reappears countless times. The utility move used here can be used to ditch coins or other small objects in a casual off-beat manner, in other routines. This has been one of the routines over the past few years I have used more than any other.
Card Under Box routine - Greg taught his card under box routine, where the card appears on top of the box, under the box, in the box and then the deck appears in the box leaving only the selection in your hands. This routine itself IS misdirection. If you want to work on your misdirection, start using this routine and it will get you comfortable very quickly. I loved this routine.
Pickpocketing workshop - Greg did an unplanned 45 minute workshop on pickpocketing. He covered stealing their ID or bank card, their watch, their sunglasses, their wallet and their watch - repeatedly. This was really insightful and if you ever wanted to learn pickpocketing or watch steals, this will educate you :) Greg teaches these moves really well and covers all the outs as well. All you need to do is practice these steals on a friend, then you can add them into your repertoire.
Lighter colour change - Greg teaches his handling of the colour changing lighter using a simple and very common gimmick. I actually had this gimmick at home so I played with it and this is so good. Don't underestimate this, it is gold.
Stick shift - the classic toothpick penetration effect with a twist at the end where the toothpick restores and can be handed out. I really loved this and is something you can just pull out at a dinner table and bust out.
Greg really did an awesome job on this lecture. I listed a few effects above, but there are so many other routines/effects taught on this lecture. I gained a lot of knowledge and material from this lecture. Definitely one of the best instalments in the At The Table series so far... 10/10
