I am a huge fan of the At The Table lecture series and this one certainly didn't disappoint. Dan Hauss is a very creative magician and is one of my favourite creators. This lecture was very fun because Dan had so many ideas to share and they came one after another. A few times, he created something then and there, mid-lecture. Mike Hankins hosted the lecture and the event was very laid back and quite funny.
A lot of great routines and ideas were shared and I believe anyone could get at least something out of this. Most of the things taught were not full, polished routines and they were ideas which you could take and adapt to your performance. I liked this because it doesn't restrict you to a certain patter/presentation.
Some stand outs from the lecture were:
Ring and Coin Routine - this was released as a stand alone download at Ellusionist a while ago. This is a very visual routine in which a coin changes into a ring (and vice versa) 4-5 times. The concept used is very clever and you could create your own changes utilising the principle.
Flow 2.0 - this is a way of performing Dan's effect Flow with a glass bottle. However, if you don't have the original effect then this will be of no use to you. You need the original gimmick and he doesn't tell you what that is - he just tells you how to apply the gimmick so that you can perform it with a glass bottle. I have Flow and tested this new principle out and it works really well.
Strike Change - this is a beautiful variation on David Williamson's Strike Vanish in which the coin changes instead of vanishing. This is really good and I had so much fun practising this.
Cotton Balls - this was just a quick idea that allows you to eat cotton balls from the bag. I will be incorporating this into my kids show and my little sister freaked out when I did this for her :D
Those were just a few stand outs from the lecture but there was so much great material taught. Dan also had some great ideas using the back palm.
Overall, this lecture was great fun. Great effects, great names (watch the lecture and you'll understand) and some really fun times. The lecture is $25 and I believe you will get at least three things out of this. I highly recommend this. 9/10
