One by One is an effect from Chris Webb in which, in the context of an Ambitious Card routine, the selection visually melts from the bottom of the deck through all of the cards, right up to the top position.
The method for this effect is a simple gimmicked card which you can put in the deck and use at the end of your ambitious routine. It allows for the effect to take place, and is really clever! I loved playing around with the gimmick, because it looks just great!
You do have to construct the gimmick yourself in the brand of playing cards you choose to use. The construction isn't complicated and takes 3-5 minutes max. It won't break as there is nothing fragile about it, however it will eventually wear and tear as it is a playing card. Good thing is that Chris supplies you with refills, so you can make as many of these as you want.
The main routine for One by One (the rising card) is really easy to do. Just throw the gimmick in your deck and your good to go. The one "move" you have to do in order to set up the gimmick is a little knacky to do quickly, but it isn't hard by any means.you are also given a bunch of bonus routines and ideas with the concept nearest the end of the DVD.
The DVD itself is very well produced, no problems there. Chris Webb teaches in the DVD and he does a thorough job going over every aspect of the effect. He offers lots of tips on the effect, as well as some great bonus ideas to think about using with the concept.
I thought I would hate this, I honestly did. Every single method for these visual card rises have disappointed me (excepting Shin Lim's Coon). This really impressed me and I now keep one of these gimmicks in my box's cellophane at all times. Really enjoyed this project and I believe it to be a valuable addition to the ambitious card plot. 10/10
