Tie Shell is David Penn's take on the colour changing tie effect. This gimmick allows you to subtly change the colour of your tie and reveal the change later on in your performance. This is great for conferences, lectures, parlour and stage shows and other related performances. The great thing about this gimmick is after the change, the tie left around your neck really is a regular tie.
On the DVD, David Penn teaches everything really well and covers all aspects so you can get performing immediately. Mr Penn has a really enjoyable teaching style, he throws in little hints and tips to make things easier for the performer, which is very valuable. The DVD is very well produced and very detailed. He even teaches how to tie a tie if you don't know how to, so you have no excuse to not perform this once you get it.
You receive in the box the majority of the materials you will need to construct the gimmick. The ties and simple household items like scissors, tape, etc. isn't included. The method behind the change is very simple and the change is easy to execute. The construction of the gimmick is probably the worst aspect of this project. I found it slightly complex at first but it is very doable and my gimmick works brilliantly now. The gimmick will last you ages, if not forever and the reset after a performance is around 30 seconds and you are set to perform again.
You are given a few ideas of how to use the gimmick. Such ideas were an open prediction, a use within a colour changing deck routine, a visual change with a top hat, etc. I do wish a full routine was taught but only ideas were spoken about. However I think that leaves you to be creative with the gimmick on your own part.
Overall, this is a great project with lots of potential. If you liked what you saw in the trailer, just get it. The method is simple, easy to do and customisable to your own performance style. I really enjoyed this and you will too. 9.5/10
