What? Another new torn and restored card? Impossible! No-one has released one within the past ten years!! No, it is another torn and restored card effect. I love the torn and restored card plot. I am always searching for the best TNR method and routine and the truth is - I still haven't found it yet. I am taking different methods from different DVDs and hopefully one day will create my own.
The method taught on this DVD is very unique, I hadn't seen it before and was fun to play around with. A signed and unsigned version is taught. The unsigned version is a little cleaner and less fiddly than the signed version. The first three restorations are very, very beautiful. The concept does all the work and you really can focus on presentation here. The last piece does require you to go into your pocket to retrieve a lighter (which is an issue to some magicians) but I think it fits in well with the effect. The unsigned version is very practical and allows you to bring a stack of gimmicked cards so you can perform repeatedly.
The signed version does require a little more time between each restoration and is a bit more fiddly. It also requires a few extra things alongside the gimmick used in the unsigned routine. The set-up takes a little longer but isn't really a big deal. If you really want the card signed, this shouldn't be an issue to you. I personally don't have cards signed in TNRs or general card tricks. The only "select and sign" routine I do is Ambitious, Card To Mouth and my personal Signed Card to Impossible Location. I know many magicians HAVE to have cards signed so this is also covered on the DVD.
The DVD is well shot and produced. The entire DVD is taught with no talking, just background music and some text pop-ups. There were a few moments in which the camera was a bit too far away but this wasn't a huge issue.
Overall I am really happy with this. This is a clever, brand new concept which could be used in other routines, not just TNRs. I like the thinking behind this and everything was well covered on the DVD. Although not the Holy Grail (which I doubt we will ever find), it is a great addition to the collection of TNRs out there, and is definitely better than some of the ones I have seen before. This is pretty good. 7.5/10
