The first ATT lecture of November was Jesse Feinberg. What a great way to kick off the month. There was lots of great material taught. Here were a few highlights:
BLUR - this is a routine with a borrowed phone where their screen becomes blurry. You can present his as a dual reality effect. This requires no gimmicks and is completely impromptu. The only problem with this is after future updates of iOS, it may not continue to work. However, this is a great piece of impromptu phone magic.
Rip Off - this is the stand out of the lecture in my opinion. This is an impromptu torn and restored corner effect with a kicker ending. You tear the corner off the card, put it in your mouth and spit it back onto the card. Then you tear the corner back off, make it vanish and make it reappear in your mouth. After that, the corner matches and is left examinable. The card can also be signed. It is super easy and super fun.
Coin Thru Box - this was a nice piece where a coin passes through the cellophane on the card box and ends up impossibly inside. This uses a simple gimmick which can be added to any card box without affecting everyday use. The "move" is slightly difficult at first, but nothing that cannot be overcome with practice. Very nice indeed.
A minor issue I had was that a few effects listed in the ad copy were not taught in the lecture. These include - X-Finger, Bit's and Pieces section and a live performance of Wedge. These were listed in the ad copy but not gone over in the lecture. Not a huge issue, but a little disappointing.
Overall, this was a great lecture to kick of the November series of At The Table. Mike Hankins as usual did a great job hosting. Jesse explained some of his marketed effects (Yaya and Animate and Restore) and also did a live performance of his new release with Magic Estate called Shadow Box. Jesse is a living genius when it comes to creating effects, and his methods are always clever and fun to use. Apart from the small ad copy issue, this was very enjoyable. This lecture was great fun - 8/10
